Martin and Julie Field with their children, Lachlan, Eloise, Charlotte and Jacob are missionaries with CMS and this year move to Buenos Aires to begin their work learning Spanish for twelve months. They plan to work with the Argentine evangelical student organisation ABUA (Asociacion Biblica Universitaria Argentina) in helping Christian university students understand the scriptures and reach out to those who do not yet know Christ.
ABUA has groups meeting on a number of campuses but with only a handful of local staff to work alongside them to reach the one million university students in Argentina. Due to Argentina's economic instability many students face the pressure of needing to work on top of full-time study. Most Argentines would consider themselves Catholic (about 90%) yet nominalism and cynicism are widespread.
The evangelical church has grown significantly in the past 25 years but there remains a great need for biblically trained pastors and lay people.
